Bella is torn between her vampire boyfriend and her werewolf best friend. The story continues with the ultimate love triangle.
After the altercation with the Volturi in the second novel, it seems that Edward can no longer protest to Bella’s request to become immortal. However, this may be the least of their worries as a brood of newborn vampires head to Forks. Eclipse OverviewA series of mysterious killings in Seattle turn out to be vampire related, and they are heading towards Forks. This time, the Cullen’s and the werewolves will need to join forces to save Bella, but werewolves and vampires are mortal enemies, and as Edward and Jacob both vie for Bella’s love, an uneasy truce is formed. Eclipse ReviewEclipse is as suspenseful as it’s predecessors, if not more so given that Bella is in the ultimate love triangle between Edward and Jacob. Bella’s relationship with Edward becomes more serious while her relationship with Jacob begins to move into a ‘more then friends’ stage. Bella has decided that she will be ready to become immortal after her high school graduation, and as her graduation approaches, Jacob takes her on an emotional roller coaster as he voices his opinions on her decision and reminds her of the human experiences she will miss out on. Aside from Bella being torn between Edward and Jacob, Victoria is still hunting her, and in addition, around 20 newborn vampires are headed towards Forks. The Cullen’s and the werewolves will need to call a truce if they are to win this battle. Meyer continues to provide a page-turner, and she also adds more depth to her characters. Legends of the Quileute tribes and backgrounds on Rosalie and Jasper are included, and the bickering between Edward and Jacob creates tension. One flaw of the novel is a scene in which Edward and Jacob are having a conversation while Bella is drifting off to sleep. It doesn’t quite work as the novel is written from Bella’s point of view and the scene is passed of as Bella’s dream. Despite this slight flaw, Eclipse is an enjoyable book. Bella as a character has matured and actually considers the consequences to her actions, be they how she deals with Edward or Jacob’s feelings, the human experiences she would miss out on, and her future as an immortal bloodthirsty newborn vampire. Eclipse was published in 2007 by Little, Brown and Company and by Atom, and again in 2008 and 2009 by Atom (ISBN 978-1-905654-36-9). The series began with Twilight , which was made into a movie, and continued in New Moon, which is also currently being made into a movie. The series continued with Eclipse and the final installment, Breaking Dawn. Meyer has also written a book outside of the twilight series called The Host.
