Gossip Girl's fame reaches not only through a series of books, but also to a popular television series. But who are the characters who make this series such a hit?

The players at Constance Billiard School for Girls and St. Jude's School for Boys make up the dramatic cast of the popular series Gossip Girl. Meet the six main players here:

- the girl that everyone wants to be or be with, Serena inspires the awe and affection of all three of the male leads in the books, as well as many others, although all she realy wants is a true relationship, which she seeks after with Nate. Her parents are from high society, and want the best for their daughter, so she has had every opportunity in show business, from modeling to acting. Though she is high strung and self- centered, she also has a human quality that makes the reader want to know more about her

Serena van der Woodsen

Blair Waldorf - though she is the main character in the series, she does not always portray all the qualities of a New York socialite daughter. Though she can be self-centered and whiny, she has a sensitive side and is often left feeling insecure by her friendship with Serena. Blair has a tumultuous home life, with a gay father living with his partner and their adopted twins, and her mother having started her own family, and this turbulence has transferred into her own love life, especially the part involving Nate.

Nate Archibald - bouncing back and forth between girls isn’t Nate’s only problem. St. Jude’s School for Boys’ lacrosse player has also run into problems with the law and his marijuana habits. Though Blair has always been his on again-off again girlfriend, his other flings have included both Serena and Jenny. Though Nate was planning on going to Yale, he ended up going off with one of his father’s Navy friends to sail around the world, trying to escape his problems.

Dan Humphrey – filling the role of confused and angst-filled writer, Dan has dabbled in just about every kind of writing, from songs, to poetry to interning at a literary magazine. Along with his writing skills, Dan also has a knack for questioning everything around him. After spending a few years pining over Serena, Dan finally realized he was in love with Vanessa, however not before experimenting with his sexuality with a guy named Greg. Despite a series of confused attempts at reaching out, Dan is extremely close to his father, Rufus, and his sister, Jenny.

Jenny Humphrey – although Jenny tries her best to be Serena, many things seem to get in her way, like her young age and notable physical characteristics. Jenny, the fourteen-year old sister of Dan, is the youngest of the group, but always seems to be in just as much trouble as the others. Not only was Jenny kicked out of Constance Billiard School for Girls, but also accidentally found herself in a photo shoot for an article entitled, “Does Breast Size Matter?” At her new school, Jenny becomes the “It” Girl, following after Serena and spawning a spin-off series of books.

Vanessa Abrams – the odd-ball out of the Gossip Girl group, Vanessa not only shaves her own head but has hippies for parents and a sister who plays in a rock band – not exactly your normal Constance Billiard socialite family! Though she goes through a tumultuous relationship with Dan in her days at the boarding school, things become even more complicated when she goes to NYU and moves in with the Humphreys.

Though through the years audiences have followed each of the characters through storylines that have sent them on emotional roller coasters, fans all over the country still tune in each week and continue to grab the books off the shelves. Hats off to Cecily von Ziegesar!
